ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most widely-known methods of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This healing technique aims to stimulate the body's immune system and strengthen its ability to heal itself. Acupuncture typically involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles at precise locations (or "points") which correspond to specific ailments or imbalances within the body. There are over 300 classical acupuncture points and I select a combination unique to you. Using TCM diagnostic tools and theory, I assess the body's condition and the underlying cause of imbalance. This way, I can focus on treating the root (cause) in order to treat the branch (symptoms). This approach provides you with the best chance of a full recovery.

Depending on your symptoms, any of the following additional TCM methods could form part of your treatment:

FAQ - ACUPUNCTURE

Q: IS ACUPUNCTURE PAINFUL?

Where the acupuncture needle has been inserted, you may experience a vague numbness, heaviness, tingling or dull ache. Some people start sweating or have a slight redness around the point. Sometimes people experience a sensation of energy spreading and moving around the needle. All these reactions are good and show that the body is responding to the stimulation. After treatment, you may feel energised or may experience a deep sense of relaxation and well-being.

Q: DO THE NEEDLES HURT?

The sensation caused by an acupuncture needle varies. Some people feel a little pain as the needles are inserted, but most people feel no pain at all. It is much less painful than an injection. The needles are tiny, just a little larger than a human hair.

Q: HOW DEEP DO THE NEEDLES GO?

The depth of the insertion depends on the area of the body. For example, needles in your back or limbs can go in about as deep as the 1-2cm, whereas a needle on your finger would be around 0.2cm.

Q: HOW SAFE IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is extremely safe. It is an all-natural, drug-free therapy, typically aiding relaxation and well-being. Acupuncture needles are sterile, pre-packaged, disposable, and hair-thin. There is little danger of infection from acupuncture needles because they are sterile, used once, and then discarded. Each area of your body is also made sterile with a medical wipe before the needle is inserted.

Q: HOW DO I KNOW YOU ARE DOING IT PROPERLY?

I have over 25 years of clinical practice. Every person that I treat has a different body shape, so sometimes the needle position may slightly vary for different people. When we find the right point, you will usually feel a sensation that indicates the needle is properly inserted and that the treatment is working.
